Beneficiary Research

One of the more gratifying committees within NAWN to serve on is the Beneficiary Research Committee. This group manages the selection process for the recipients of the funds generated at our two signature events- “An Evening in New Albany,” which is held in March yearly, and our Annual Fashion Show and Marketplace, which takes place in November.

The Beneficiary Research Committee, under the leadership of the Beneficiary Research Chair, accepts applications from area non profit agencies that relate to NAWN’s mission of helping women and children. The committee then evaluates the applicants, visits select applicants and then recommends to the NAWN Board of Directors finalists for the two fundraising events.

Past beneficiaries for our Fashion Show have included Amethyst, Inc., Directions for Youth and Families, Neighborhood Nest, Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation, Huckleberry House and others. “An Evening in New Albany” has supported New Directions Career Center, Habitat for Humanity, Lower Lights Health Center, Rosemont Center, New Albany Safety Town, the NAWN Endowment Fund and many more. Since it’s inception, NAWN has given over $800,000 by means of these two events.

The current application cycle is now closed. Once open again, the application will appear here on NAWN’s website. Please contact the Beneficiary Research Chair at beneficiary@nawn.org with any questions.

It is with great excitement that we announce that the YWCA Family Center has been selected as the beneficiary of the 2012 Fashion Show! The YWCA Family Center provides emergency shelter and critical services to stabilize homeless families in central Ohio. A national model, more than 70% of their families find housing within 25 days of entering the program. To assist families with rapid re-housing, they offer a breadth of services under one roof, such as: direct family assistance in the form of healthy meals, warm beds, basic need items, and transportation assistance; a family advocate to assist with housing, job counseling and services for children; and childcare so that parents can spend their days searching for jobs and housing knowing their children are in award-winning childcare programs. Proceeds from the Fashion Show will establish the New Albany Women’s Network Fund for Young Mothers to provide essential items for the children of homeless, and usually single, mothers who enter the Family Center.
