The Beneficiary for the 2008 Evening in New Albany is the Lower Lights Christian Health Center (LLCHC).   LLCHC is a primary medical care clinic located in Franklinton, Columbus ’ most poverty-stricken neighborhood.  In its first year, 2002, LLCHC had 2,900 patient visits, which increased to 9,000 last year.  They provide care to sick patients, wellness services, including childhood immunizations, and important diagnostic services, such as screening for breast, prostate, and cervical cancers, and tests for diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.  They also dispense generic prescription drugs.  And, in 2005 they added nutrition/diabetic services.  40% of its patients are covered by Medicare and Medicaid, another 35% have no insurance.  Many of these patients would have great difficulty finding quality health care without this clinic.  LLCHC is not a free clinic; patients are charged based on their abilities to pay with most uninsured patients paying $5 per office visit, leaving a $10,000-$20,000 budget deficit to be filled by donations and grants.  Our support together will help LLCHC continue to provide these critical services and help them achieve their goals of expanding their services to include vision, dental, and mental health services.
