On Friday, May 23, 2008, New Albany Women's Network (NAWN) presented The Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF) with a check for $16,500, money raised from NAWN’s Ninth Annual Fashion Show and Charity Luncheon. The event, held March 15, 2008, was set at the New Albany Country Club and hosted 175 attendees. NAWN Members and New Albany teachers and students modeled clothing donated by area retailers. Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Limited Brands, Inc. (Bath & Body Works, C.O. Bigelow, Henri Bendel, Victoria’s Secret) and Nordstrom were this year's supporting contributors, with over 75 additional retailers contributing to the Fashion Show, either in the form of clothing, gift certificates, services and products. All tallied, NAWN raised $16,500 for CABF, NAWN's highest producing Fashion Show to date. This year's Tri-chairs, Laura Scholten, Heather Buchanan and Marsha Nash, along with their committee members, worked tirelessly to execute the annual fashion show. “We had a wonderful outpouring of support from our Columbus and New Albany area retail friends. It just shows what can happen when a community comes together.” stated Marsha Nash. "We are proud of the work that was put into this event, our committee and my fellow chairs worked very hard and the pay-off shows. This is our best year ever.” Laura Scholten added “It has been wonderful working with CABF, knowing that all the funds we raise will go toward such a worthy cause--local teen outreach efforts.”
The primary program goal of CABF is to assist teens and young adults living with mood disorders transition safely into adulthood by providing them with the knowledge and skills to manage their illness. CABF will use the financial support provided by NAWN to expand and promote their website at www.depressedteens.com with programming specific to teens and families in the Columbus and surrounding Central Ohio area. Their plan is to coordinate and promote the programming through relationships they have established with Columbus high schools, clinics, physicians, therapists and mental health professionals. Podcast programming will be developed that will highlight Columbus health care professionals, local resources and personal stories to provide information and inspiration targeted to middle and high school aged adolescents and teens.
NAWN is proud to be entering their tenth year as an organization and ninth year hosting their Annual Fashion Show. The initial concept of the Fashion Show has evolved since its creation in 1999, moving from a Preview Luncheon for their Rummage Sale, to one featuring all-new fashions donated by local retailers. In the past five years the Fashion Show has raised over $60,000 in support of past beneficiaries such as Lives of Discovery Lecture Series, The Hope Fund of Hope’s Boutique, “CASA” of Franklin County (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), Huckleberry House and CABF.
